Environmental contamination of the aquatic environment by metals is a major concern and has received considerable attention in recent decades. Metals, derived from agricultural operations and industrial effluents, can reach different bodies of water and produce toxic effects on aquatic organisms and, accumulated in aquatic biota, can represent a public health problem. The present study aims to investigate the presence of metals [aluminum (Al), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), calcium (Ca), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), strontium (Sr), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mn), manganese (Mn), molybdenium (Mo), nickel (Ni), potassium (K), selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn)] in the water and sediment of the Pirajibu River, Sorocaba , SP and the liver of bullfrog tadpoles, Lithobates catesbeianus and verify the effect of these metals on these organisms. For this purpose, water and sediment will be collected in two locations on the river (P1 and P2) and the tadpoles will be exposed to these waters for 96 hours. To assess the effects, the following parameters in the liver will be analyzed: activity of antioxidant enzymes: SOD (superoxide dismutase) and CAT (catalase), levels of LPO (lipid peroxidation), PCO (carbonylated proteins)and MT (metallothionein). The data will be compared with a land use map and with parameters established by CONAMA Resolution No. 357 of 2005.
