Abstract

Due to the importance of groundwater as a source of water supply, studies regarding aspects related to the estimation of recharge rates have become important, because recharge rate is important information for adequate water management. In this way, regional recharge estimation along Peixe-Aguapei river watershed, respectively Water Management Units 20 and 21 (UGRHIs 20 and 21), are important because these watersheds are located over the Bauru Aquifer System (BAS), which represents probably the most important water source to supply the population and economic development, based on agricultural activities. Seeking to answer relevant questions regarding spatial and temporal variations on BAS groundwater recharge, the main purpose of this project is to calculate the water budget for the Aguapei-Peixe River watershed (2010-2020), based on rainfall and evapotranspiration data obtained from orbital sensors, looking for establish monthly water excess and deficits and to associate these values to climatic events. The water budget estimations will be compared to water level variations observed in monitoring wells located in the Aguapei-Peixe River watershed from the Integrated Network of Groundwater Monitoring (RIMAS) managed by the Brazilian Geological Survey (CPRM). As a result of this project, besides the water budget estimations, is expected to contribute to the establishment of protocols for the application of water budget based on orbital sensors regarding the correct management of BAS groundwater.
