Abstract

This project seeks to combine multiple data sets with a graph-based spatial discretization to extract complex patterns relating urban infrastructure and crimes. The main goal is to develop visualization assisted analytical tools customized to support the analysis of criminal activities in urban areas with the characteristics of São Paulo city, that is, high criminality rates with great variability in the pattern of crimes, even in geographically close regions. The idea is to build upon mathematical and computational techniques to support the visualization tools tailored to reveal patterns of crimes and their evolution over time and predict them, assisting domain experts in their decision-making process and providing guidelines not only for repressive, but above all, preventive actions, strengthening the planning and implementation of institutional actions, especially from the police.
