Abstract

Manoel de Araújo Porto-Alegre was an historian that along with other scholars was part of a generations that intended to trace an aesthetic renovation in Brazil during the post-Independence period. Considering the importance of writing history in this renewal context, the present project aims to analyses the concepts that outlined Porto-Alegre's history writing by the comparation of his publishments in the Journal de L'Institut Historique and the Revista Trimensal do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro, with the goal to understand to what extent your contact with the Historical Institute of Paris (IHP) would guide your historiography at the Brazilian Historical and Geographic Institute. So the goal is to understand how this scholar sought to include Brazil in an modern time experience, through the writing of history that was built in the period in France and in Brazil. Therefore, the present project, inserted in the discussions about the fabrication of a historiography consistent with the area of studies of the History of historiography, proposes to analyses this author's production between 1834, IHP's year of foundation and first Porto-Alegre's publishment in the Journal, and 1859, date of his last studies published in the IHGB's magazine.
