Abstract

Afforestation has numerous health benefits for urban populations. As a result of inadequate maintenance of afforestation in cities, there is a great number of fallen trees. This project aims to design a tree monitoring system within the Internet of Things paradigm, focusing on the analysis and prediction of tree falling risk in urban environments. The hypothesis evaluated is the relationship between wind speed and variables related to tree breakage. The main contributions will be: (i) elaboration of a proposal for tree monitoring system, which considers the whole data life cycle; and (ii) field implementation of a capture module to collect data related to tree disruption. The hypothesis raised will be verified through field experimentation using several sensors. It is intended to adopt the Internet of Things paradigm in the system design, in order to increase the monitoring potential. (AU)
