Abstract

Individuals with a genetic diagnosis of Down syndrome have intellectual disabilities and often have difficulties in all language subsystems. The use of standardized instruments has been increasingly frequent to assess changes in the language process. Therefore, the aim of the present work is to investigate the performance in receptive and expressive vocabulary skills of children diagnosed with Down syndrome and to compare them with a database of children with typical language development. The sample group will have the participation of 20 children of both sexes, in the age group of 6 to 11 years old, who will be divided into different groups. For the comparative group, 20 children with typical development will be selected from the database, paired to the sample group by sex and chronological age. To evaluate the vocabulary and expressive of the children, the Expressive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test, fourth edition (EOWPVT-4) will be applied, recently adapted to Brazilian Portuguese. Data from children diagnosed with Down syndrome will be compared with children with typical language development. (AU)
