Abstract

Common Mental Disorders (CMD) and changes in lipid profile in older adults are conditions that may be due to biological changes inherent to aging and that seem to be related to each other. The protective effect that healthy dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean Dietary Pattern (MDP), can perform on mental health outcomes and lipid profile of the elderly is well described in the literature. However, the association between CMD and MDP and the role of lipid profile in this relationship in Brazilian older adults has not been investigated. There are no data that demonstrate, in Brazil, the evolution of these associations over a period. Objective: To investigate the association between CMD, adherence to the MDP and lipid profile in older adults living in São Paulo, and the evolution of these associations over the years 2003, 2008 and 2015. Methods: Data will be used from the Health Survey of São Paulo (ISA-Capital) of 2003, 2008 and 2015, a study composed of population-based cross-sections. The Self Reporting Questionnaire-20 will be used to identify the presence of CMD. Adherence to the MDP will be assessed through MedDietScore, which is developed using food consumption data obtained with 24-hour dietary recall. Lipid profile variables will include: total cholesterol, high density lipoproteins, low density lipoproteins and triglycerides. The association between CMD (outcome), MedDietScore and lipid profile (exposure) will be investigated using logistic regression (adjusted and unadjusted) models. A significance level of 5% will be adopted for the final statistical tests. The analyzes will be performed using Stata software (version 14). (AU)
