Discourse ethos as management of authorship: analysis of the editorial object Turma da Mônica: Romeu e Julieta

Abstract

Based on the theoretical framework of Discourse Analysis developed in France, based on the proposals of Dominique Maingueneau (2006) for the analysis of the discursive functioning in literary materials, in this project we intend to study the editorial object Turma da Mônica: Romeu e Julieta (2015 ), considering the hypothesis that his study is a contribution to the investigation of a recurring expedient in contemporary editorial production, in the spreadable media culture (JENKINS, 2014). To this end, the concept of midium will be mobilized (DEBRAY, 1993), taken up by Maingueneau in the study of creative paratopia (2006), taking into account the instances person, writer and inscriber in the constitution of authorship, always related to certain types of midium. Our hypothesis is specified by observing the following problem: in the commemorative edition launched in 2015, there is a change in the discursive ethos (MAINGUENEAU, 2008) of the characters brought to the comics, due to the adaptation process linked to the change in authorship. Since the essential characteristics of the characters in Turma da Mônica remain in the adaptation, precisely because of their caricature, humorous and childlike aspect, which distances them from the characteristics associated with the characters of the original story (the very idea of origin is called into question), we want to see how, in this reinterpretation of a consecrated story, significant changes are arising from the pre-existing discursive ethos of the characters in the story that are taken as origin, which are modified and combined with the ethos of the set of characters from other stories, together with the changes in production and circulation conditions. It is important to observe how editorial maneuvers affect the production of meanings and authorship and that they are, in this process, management. (AU)
