Although fishes have traditionally been the subject of comparative evolutionary studies, the Lebiasinidae family has long been little cytogenetically explored, possibly because of difficulties in obtaining good chromosomal preparations due to the small size of its representatives. However, this scenario has presented significant changes due to the initial contributions of the proponent of this project made during its scientific initiation, from conventional and molecular cytogenetic analyzes performed in four Pyrrhulina species. The results showed a large karyotype variation present in the group accompanied by significant changes in the amount of heterochromatin, multigene families' distribution pattern and in the presence of a multiple sex chromosome system in only one of the analyzed species. Thus, the present project intends to analyze the chromosomal and genomic diversification that occurred in the genus Pyrrhulina, which will focus on comparative chromosomal and genomic analyzes in other species of the genus, focusing on the processes of karyotypic evolution that occurred in this fish group. In addition, the genetic distances of the examined species will be evaluated by genotyping using next generation sequencing (DArTseq). The data will also allow a broad investigation into the influence of the development of multiple sex chromosome systems on genetic diversity, reduction of gene flow and consequently on the speciation process. Finally, the results will provide a clear picture of the genetic diversity present among species and demographic models that may explain basin colonization will be elaborated, clarifying the current geographical distribution of this group.
