Abstract

The proposal seeks to continue a research agenda that is dedicated to observing the legal treatment of police approaches that result in death, focusing on the processing of these occurrences throughout the process of accountability in the justice system. Given the institutional architecture adopted by Brazil to investigate and hold military police officers who committed homicides in service, identified in the previous phase of the research, the high number of this type of occurrence in the last decade and the reports of researchers and relatives of victims of police violence regarding the low effectiveness of the justice system, is it interesting to know, what are the practices, the looks, the speeches and the representations that the actors that operationalize the processes of accountability have in relation to the legal treatment given to these deaths? The research values the use of mixed methods, justified due to the gaps regarding the quantitative panorama of the outcomes of the judgments and the identification of the various rationalities that are represented (KAMINSKI, 2015) when the subject is police lethality. From the operational point of view, the research has varied observation supports: in the first stage, sentences and publications available in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo, and in the second stage, access to the case file, the process flows and outcomes, the semi-directed interviews. , observations of forensic and administrative practices, and their respective analyzes, established case law and doctrinal arrangements, should provide relevant information and lines of understanding about the ways in which different actors in the legal field reconstruct lethal police practices and impress upon them. different senses, especially relevant factors when trying to understand and/or evaluate the performance of the justice system to deal with authoritarian, undemocratic and plausibly racialized practices.
