Abstract

Vibration of vortex induced structures is of technological interest in various fields of engineering. It is a typical case of fluid-structure interaction observed mainly in flows around blunt bodies. Very little is known about the fluid-structure interaction, and the design and design rules for these structures are based on a limited set of experimental results. The objective of the proposal is to develop a methodology capable of recovering with greater numerical acuity the experimentally observed behavior of the vortex-induced vibration problem in a rigid cylinder subjected to an external flow and free to vibrate in the transverse flow direction through numerical dynamics simulations. of the fluids. It is further desired to understand in more detail the phenomenon occurs when the frequency of vortex emission equals the natural frequency of the cylinder. (AU)
