Abstract

This project aims to perform the experimental analysis, quality testing and thermodynamic modeling of the fluid phase behavior of the liquid-liquid equilibrium based on the extraction of 1-butanol from water by using 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium ethyl sulfate {[EMIM] [ESO4]}. The experimental process will be performed in a glass equipment which will consist of the equilibrium cell with an adaptation to keep the temperature constant with the thermostatic bath. Once equilibrium is reached, the analyzes (composition of the two liquid phases) will be made through the refractive indices. Previously, binodal curve will be obtained in the cloud point and will be used as calibration curve (refractive index and density versus composition). The quality test of the experimental data will be performed with the Marcilla and collaborator's method. For the thermodynamic modeling, the Gamma-Gamma (g-g) approach, based on the excess Gibbs free energy model: NRTL (Non-Random Two-Liquids), will be used to obtain the activity coefficients of the components in both liquid phases. Results of the experimental part and thermodynamic modeling will be compared through the phase diagram for ternary systems showing the binodal curve and the tie-lines at 25,0°C and 1,0 atm. (AU)
