Abstract

Introduction: Body composition is an important assessment in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), since variables as Fat Free Mass (FFM) represents important determinants of life, independent of respiratory function. The conventional physical training (aerobic and resistance combined) is capable to provide increase of muscle mass percentage, Body Mass Index (BMI) and decreases of fat mass percentage. However, the effects from the insertion of functional exercises in circuit format to a conventional training on the variables of body composition and health status in patients with COPD are unknown. Objective: To assess the effects of the insertion of functional exercises in circuit format to a conventional training (aerobic and resisted combined) on body composition and health status of patients with COPD. Methods: Patients with COPD will be randomized into three groups: CTG (Conventional Training Group), FTG (Functional Training Group) or UCG (Usual Care Group), the trainings will be perform during 8 weeks. The evaluations will be perform before the trainings and after 8 week of trainings, and the patients will be evaluate about body composition (Bioimpedance InBody 720) and health status (COPD Assessment Test - CAT). Statistical analysis: The normality of the data will be verified by the Shapiro-Wilk's test, the analysis will be done with the "principle of the intention to treatment", it will be used the Two-way Repeated Measures ANOVA to intra and intergroups comparisons. In variables with non-normal distribution will be used the Wilcoxon's test for intragroups or Mann-Whitney for intergroups. The level of significance used will be of p<0,05. (AU)
