Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric study of the personality inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5): self-report (SRF) and brief (BF) versions

Abstract

A fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) presents an Alternative Model for Personality Disorders, which addresses personality functioning through traits. To test the new dimensional model of understanding personality in its domains and faces, a new dimensional assessment tool for non-adaptive personality traits, or the DSM-5 Personality Inventory, was proposed. PID-5). Several studies have been conducted to test how psychometric qualities of these instruments in different versions and cultures and the results are shown quite a bit. At the time of the instrument, the PID-5 has not been translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese, nor has it been evaluated from a psychometric perspective. Thus, this study aims to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of PID-5 to our context and to study the psychometric qualities of validity and validity. The PID-5 study is being conducted in three distinct phases: a) phase 1 - PID-5 translation and adaptation process into its different formats (SRF (Self Report Form - full version, BF (Brief Form)) - version brief, SF (Short Form - short version, and IRF (Informant Form) - informant version): a translation by three independent translators, two-judge translation review, back-translation by an experienced bilingual researcher, expert committee review; b) phase 2 - PID-5 psychometric study: sample composed of 2200 individuals from the general population. An internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), validated concurrent and divergent (with reference to the Revised NEO Personality Inventory instrument), confirmatory factor analytics and test-retest (in progress) will be analyzed; c) phase 3 - PID-5-BF psychometric study: considering a sample of 250 individuals from the general population to perform the analyzes described in phase 2, as well as comparative analyzes with an SRF version.
