Abstract

Ischemic stroke is a disease with a high incidence rate, both in the industrialized and non-industrialized worlds, being responsible for high morbidity and mortality among its victims, predominantly in the elderly age group. After the occurrence of the event, however, it has been shown by previous studies that the nervous system acts to reorganize itself to compensate for the functions affected by neurological damage, a fact that occurs from the formation of new synapses and is called neuroplasticity. In this research, a study will be conducted about these morphophysiological changes in homologous areas contralateral to the affected hemisphere, using magnetic resonance images (MRI) stored in the database of the Neuroimaging Laboratory of the Unicamp Hospital. Thus, it is expected to better understand this process of cortex and white matter remodeling over the months after stroke.
