Kuramoto's model is a paradigm in the study of synchronization. In its original version the model consists of a set of oscillators with different natural frequencies which, when coupledconveniently, oscillate in sync. Recently the model has been generalized to describe oscillators in more dimensions and it was shown that, contrary to the original model, the transition from disordered to synchronized phase is first order in odd dimensions. In this project we will study thethree-dimensional Kuramoto system subjected to a time periodic external force. The motivation for the work is the study of the response of neural networks to external stimuli. The Forced Kuramotoproblem was solved in two dimensions (original model) and showed several bifurcations betweendistinct phases in the parameter space. We want to extend the calculation to 3D and understand therole of first order transition in the dynamics. (AU)
