The application of photoredox catalysis in small molecule synthesis has been the focus of research groups in academia and industry alike. This particular field is uncovering new advancements and discoveries in synthetic chemistry with major advantages over traditional chemical methods. Reaction conditions are generally milder, use cheap feedstock reagents to access complex products, and in cases, photocatalytic systems allows the selective functionalization of sp3-carbons where previously was not possible with other techniques.
