Bioethanol is one of the most used renewable automotive biofuel, which has potential to replace and to be added to fossil fuels as gasoline. Therefore, the search for more efficient production rotes is constant, in order to ensure the best performance of its production chain. In Brazil, bioethanol production uses sugarcane as raw material, which is processed by steps of treatment, fermentation and distillation. To achieve bioethanol in a degree of purity according the legal parameters of application as a gasoline additive, it is necessary to use nonconventional process of distillation. This happens because the mixture of ethanol and water forms azeotrope, which implies in the difficult of the separation by conventional distillation. On the other hand, conventional processes for separating bioethanol as fuel also need to be operated with high performance. The aim of this study is present technical and energetic evaluations about the conventional, complex and hybrid process of bioethanol purification of first and second generations. Process of conventional, multi-effect and extractive distillation are going to be simulated in Aspen Plus®, Rate Based Model, and the adsorption step in Aspen AdsorptionTM, this will be focused in the optimization of energy efficiency of the process and in the reduction of the effluent, vinasse, in addition to evaluating the different degrees of purity in each process. They are going to be compared considering their performance, energetic and capital costs, thus it will be verified the best rote to produce bioethanol using the most realistic models present in the open literature, models of non-equilibrium stages. This work is unprecedented and thus it will bring an important contribution to the area. (AU)
