The practice of murdering by women and their possible connection with the death drive: giving voice to female transgressors

Abstract

Violence is a phenomenon that has been growing intensely in recent years, constituting a serious social and public health problem. In this context, aggressiveness and violence are observed as frequent elements in nowadays society, being confused as synonymous terms. However, it is important to emphasize that violence is defined as a product of a destructive desire for aggression. In the field of psychoanalytic theory, this is explained through the psychic conflict between Eros (life drive) and Thanatos (death drive). In this context, the own constitution experience is influenced by the relationship with the paternal and maternal figures. Elements linked to the relationship with the father figure, which in Psychoanalysis brings the idea of accordance with the law, limitation, associated to the culture of contemporary society, can generate trauma and repetitions, causing displacement, sublimation and transference, which may or may not be expressed through violent acts. Faced with this reality, this study will aim to understand the conceptions of women who committed crimes (homicides) and characterize possible differences in life history and elements of psychic organization relating to male and female, from the comparison with the data obtained in a previous study with men who committed murder. The study will follow qualitative research and a descriptive investigation. Will be involved 15 women between the ages of 18 and 60 who have committed murder or attempted murder and been prived of their freedom. The data collection will take place with the use of a semi-structured question, which will be applied by individual interview. It is as important as that the researcher from the lectures and the objectives of this study prepared the text in question. The data obtained will be made through Thematic Content Analysis and interpreted by the Freudian psychoanalytic theory. It is expected with this research to understand how women who have committed homicides, visualize violence, analyzing this phenomenon considering their social, historical, cultural and political context, these constitutive and constituent of subjectivity, thus delineating similarities and differences between the male and female experience in the practice of murdering, observing the role of the death drive.
