The increase in the photovoltaic generation is a challenge for the operation of the electrical distribution systems (EDSs) due to overvoltage, overloads, and increasing system losses caused by the excess of generation. Thereby, energy storage devices, such as batteries, can be used to keep a proper operation of the EDS in which technical limits could be met while renewable generation is harnessed. Critical aspects of efficient battery allocation are the identification of the best locations and sizes for the installation. This research project proposes the development of a Stochastic Programming model for the optimal battery allocation (location and size) on EDSs with a high presence of photovoltaic generation. This mathematical optimization model aims the minimization of energy cost while ensuring the fulfillment of technical and operational constraints under a set of demand and generation scenarios for a given period. The model will be written in the mathematical modeling language AMPL and solved using CPLEX. Tests carried out in EDSs will assess the performance of the proposed formulation. (AU)
