This proposal for international collaboration aims to accomplish part of my postdoctoral entitled "Oxidative Coupling of Methane using A2B2O7 catalysts" funded by the FAPESP grant 2019/10980-9 and the thematic project entitled "Biorefinery Concept Applied to Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants: Environmental Pollution Control Coupled with Material and Energy Recovery" FAPESP grant 2015/06246-7. Further development of these postdoctoral and thematic projects is intended in collaboration with Professor Graham Hutching from Cardiff Catalysis Institute at Cardiff University. Professor Graham Hutchings' Group focuses on the development of novel selective heterogeneous catalysts for oxidation reactions and their features using in situ spectroscopy. In addition, the group proved with several publications the expertise in the preparation of controlled particle size catalysts, either by the sol-immobilization or core-shell method demonstrated efficient preparation of catalysts with highly uniform and controlled-composition of supported metals. Catalytic properties are sensitive to the diameter, chemical composition and alloy structure of the supported nanoparticles. Numerous methane oxidation reactions, for example, have shown strong dependence on the surface area of metal nanoparticles, with small nanoparticles being more active than larger nanoparticles.From the Brazilian side, it is intended to use the fluorite-type catalysts proposed in the postdoctoral project as supports for metals deposition by the sol-immobilization and core-shell method. Furthermore, the thematic project has as one of its main objectives to apply the concept of biorefinery to a biological wastewater treatment plant to obtain methane and convert it into high value-added products. Even with the satisfactory results we have achieved so far, we would like to profit from Professor Graham Hutchings' Group experience in reactions involving methane, their knowledge to work with in situ spectroscopy, and preparing nanoparticle-controlled catalysts.
