Ozone therapy cause controlled oxidative stress in the organism, inducing the improvement of antioxidant, immune and circulatory responses, which seems to help in infectious and inflammatory processes. However, very little is known about how ozone therapy affects the parameters of oxidative stress in dogs, and further studies are needed to prove its safety. This type of evaluation is necessary to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms caused by ozone therapy in the body, starting point for this therapy to be recommended as a safe and effective. In this context, the present project aims to evaluate the oxidative stress parameters in healthy dogs submitted to rectal insufflation ozone therapy. To this end, 9 healthy dogs will undergo 4 rectal insufflation ozone applications at weekly intervals with weekly sample collection for oxidative stress assessment before and after applications. Biochemical oxidative stress analyzes will be performed by photocolorimeter, and the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) will be determined by three methods: TAC Trolox equivalent by ABTS cation reduction (TAC-ABTS), TAC by plasma iron reduction capacity (TAC-FRAP) and reducing cupric antioxidant capacity (TAC-CUPRAC); In addition to the determination of total oxidative capacity (TOC), lipid peroxidation by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and antioxidants uric acid and albumin. The variables will be tested for normality and the differences between the moments will be verified by repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey or Friedmann post-Dunn post-test, being considered significant when p <0.05.
