Abstract

Shading is an effective bioclimatic design strategy for buildings located in tropical regions. Balconies are horizontal overhanging structures used as fixed solar shading devices that behave as an eave to the lower floor, reducing the incidence of direct solar radiation, while allowing the penetration of reflected and diffuse light. The main purpose of this internship project is to support the original research project (Effects of the use of balconies on thermal and luminous performance, FAPESP process number 2019/01579-9). Under the guidance of Dra. Clarice Bleil de Souza, this research aims to evaluate the effect of balconies specifically on the luminous performance of high-rise office buildings. This academic exchange is important to enrich the study already ongoing and its evaluation methods in general, and to gain experience on luminous simulations (with up to date performance metrics using parametric design tools) and its evaluation methods. The knowledge acquired will also be useful to develop the other phases of the original research project. (AU)
