Is another form of sports possible? Training of young athletes in the boxing with value

Abstract

The present project is based on the realization of an ethnography multisituated in three boxing academies that share the motto "another form of sports is possible", with the central objective of understanding the dynamics, practices and constitutive relations of the process of production of young boxers in those spaces. Comprising a transnational network of socio-sports teams that aim to combat "all forms of discrimination", the academies located in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires also form professional men and women athletes, among them some of the best classified in their countries. Thus, involving values, discourses, pedagogies and practices of resistance to market models derived from neoliberal development, these academies are very rich territories to think about issues and negotiations that involve multiple social spheres. In the same way, these scenarios present a fundamental framework for understanding the urban experiences of young boxers who juxtapose other initially non-sporting plans and spaces, such as families, schools, relations with State structures, among others.
