Tooth whitening is a treatment in great demand by patients who require aesthetic requirement in the office. Studies evaluating the effects of violet LED light on the dental structure and aesthetic restorative materials associated with these teeth that will be whitened are of utmost importance in order to investigate the effects of this light on physical properties such as surface roughness. Thus, the present study aims to evaluate the change in surface roughness of composite resins bleached with violet LED light. To obtain the samples, will be made by means of a 6mm diameter matrix, 48 Filtek Z250 composite resin discs and then they will be finished and polished. The experimental groups will be divided into: GI - Whitened with violet LED light; GII - Bleached with 35% hydrogen peroxide; GIII- No whitening. Surface roughness will be measured in Ra (¼m) with the aid of a portable roughness meter. For surface roughness analysis 36 samples of Z250 composite resin, color A2 (n = 12), and 12 samples of Z250 composite resin, color A2 (n = 3) will be used for Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis. The response variables will be surface roughness analysis (quantitative analysis) and scanning electron microscopy (qualitative analysis). (AU)
