Color change, roughness and surface topography of stained monolithic ceramics after thermocycling and toothbrushing with conventional and whitening dentifrices

The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of brushing with different dentifricies and hydrothermal aging on the optical properties, roughness and surface topography of monolithic ceramic materials based on feldsphatic porcelain (VITABLOCS Mark II), leucite (IPS Empress CAD), lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD), zircornium oxide reinforced lithium silicate (VITA Suprinity) zirconia (Prettau 4 Anterior) and a hybrid ceramic class (VITA Enamic). For each material, bar specimens (n = 40) (12 x 10 x 1.5 mm) will be obtained and divided into the following groups: Control (n = 20) and Stain (n = 20), in which samples will receive the application of their respective extrinsic pigment (stain). Then, the following tests will be performed: 1- toothbrushing with conventional dentifricie (54.750 cicles, 2,0 N, 1,0 Hz, Colgate Total 12 Clean Mint) + thermocylcing (18.000 cicles, 5-55ºC, 30 s); 2- toothbrushing with whitening dentifricie (54.750 cicles, 2,0 N, 1,0 Hz, Colgate Total 12 Professional Whitening) + thermocycling (18.000 cicles, 5-55ºC, 30 s). The optical properties (color change and brightness) of the samples will be evaluated using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade® V) according to the parameters CIEDE2000 method. Will also be performed analysis of roughness (Sa) and surface topography in confocal 3D laser microscopy. The data will be submitted to normality and homoscedasticity tests to select the statistical method to be used to analyze the results. 95% significance level will be adopted. (AU)
