Comparative analysis of voice in adult women and men before and after the continuous speech test

Abstract

Prolonged use of voice for youth and adults may cause to vocal fatigue, perhaps for a senior voice, can bring advantage because of conditioning of laryngeal musculature to be activated by the continuous use of phonation. It is believed that vocal fatigue is a negative vocal adaptation resulting from prolonged use of the voice. However, its mechanism is unknown, and the symptoms are listed in the specialized literature. OBJECTIVE: Comparative analysis of voice before and after the continuous speech test and vocal resistance in adult women and men. METHODS: The study will count with 100 participants of both sexes, aged between 21 and 45 years, adults, without a history of dysphonia and vocal and laryngeal alterations, and do not use professional voice. It will be applied a test for the knowledge of vocal quality before and after of the speech test, questionnaire of voice impact on the quality of life, voice recording and self-evaluation of auditory perception, tactile and kinesthetic hearing of the voice. Data collection will be performed at the Hospital das Clínicas e Laboratório de Investigação de Voz e Fala do Departamento de Oftalmologia, Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia de Cabeça e Pescoço da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto. The speech test lasts 60 minutes. The test room will be monitored by a digital thermometer wich measures temperature and relative humidity of the air, and noise for not to have interference in the results. (AU)
