Abstract

Shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders that leads to physical therapy. It is a condition that becomes persistent after the first episode of pain in approximately 45% of individuals and is also responsible for limiting the activities of those who have this condition. Its persistence can be explained by biopsychosocial aspects that generate catastrophic pain and kinesiophobia. Thus, the objective of this study will be to correlate shoulder pain and disability, using the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) questionnaire, with signs of fear-avoidance of pain established by the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia. For this purpose, 100 individuals of both sexes, aged between 18 and 70 years, who have shoulder pain for more than six months will be recruited. Variability of sensitivity and specificity for different scores of the SPADI questionnaire will also be established and an optimum cut-off point defined to distinguish individuals with presence and absence of kinesiophobia. The Pearson or Sperman correlation coefficient will be calculated to investigate the relationship between SPADI and TAMPA scores depending on whether the variables are parametric or non-parametric, respectively, with a significance level of p<0.05. The Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROC) will be used to establish the optimum cut-off point of the SPADI-BR score to distinguish the presence or absence of kinesiophobia, as well as to analyze the accuracy of the area under the curve (AUC). Odds Ratio analysis for the kinesiophobia event will also be performed based on the estimated cut-off point for SPADI. (AU)
