Among reformers: women and religious hierarchy in Evangelical Lutheran Confession Church in Brazil

Abstract

From research to be developed in the Evangelical Church of Lutheran Confession in Brazil (IECLB) is intended to understand the difficulty in legitimizing the female ecclesiastical exercise. It should be noted that there are thirty-eight years of openness for the participation of women in the ecclesiastical structure of this protestant church of german immigration. The research is focused on the study of the dynamics of social processes that transform religious experiences and resignify women's practices as ecclesiastical authorities. In this perspective, the hypothesis falls on the incidence of feminism in the subjectivities of the women involved in this elaboration and diffusion of a feminist ideology. In order to achieve this, the ethnographic approach seeks to analyze the political-religious universe in São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, considering the official leaders of the Church and theologians who declare themselves feminists or not, and situate the discussions, uses and appropriation concepts of women and religion in this social world.
