Research on strategies that reduce the impact of aquaculture into the environment has become the focus of researchers in all globe. Among the strategies it is know that the use of multi-trophic systems and the evaluation of the support capacity of aquatic ecosystems can significantly mitigate the environmental impacts. In the multi-trophic system are cultivated species that depend on food debris, reducing the accumulation of by-products of the crop, delaying the need for water renewal and avoiding eutrophication. While the evaluation of the support capacity allows to estimate the quantity of certain elements or organisms that can be maintained in a space without significantly changing the characteristics of the original environment. In this sense, this project intends to evaluate the support capacity of the aquatic environment for the integrated production of the species Lambari-do-rabo-amarelo (Astyanax lacustres), Curimbatá (Prochilodus lineatus) and Camarão-da-Amazônia (Macrobrachium amazonicum) cultivated in a multitrophic system in freshwater nurseries of the Aquaculture Center of UNESP (Centro de Aquicultura da UNESP). The support capacity for oxygen and ammonia will be evaluated, the main nitrogen excreta of aquatic animals, in the three differents species in species subject to three treatments: 1) Lambari monoculture; 2)Integrated culture of lambaris and prawn; 3) and integrated culture of lambaris, curimbas and prawn; The design will be completely randomized with three treatments (crop system) and four replications and will last three months. The ration (36% crude protein) will be offered only to lambaris. Oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion will be evaluated at the beginning, middle and end of the crop. The physiological data will be used in the calculations for the evaluation of the support capacity, fundamental for the sustainability of the proposed system.
