Periodontal diseases, including periodontitis, affect most severely and frequently immunosuppressed patients, including HIV-infected patients. Immunocompromise caused by HIV infection may partly explain these findings; however, other factors may be associated with the greater severity of periodontitis in these patients. The aim of this study is to determine factors that may be involved in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease in HIV-infected patients, including biomarkers responsible for the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) immune response, as cytokines (IL-1², IL-6, TNF- ±, IL-8 and IL-10). Samples from patients who participated in a quasi-experimental study (NCT03262402) will be analyzed. The sample consisted of GCF of 44 individuals with periodontitis, 22 infected and 22 non-infected with HIV, who underwent periodontal therapy. GCF biomarker levels collected before, 30 and 90 days after periodontal therapy will be evaluated. In order to minimize the influence of immune impairment in HIV-infected patients, only participants with TCD4 + <200cell / mm3 lymphocyte count, undetectable viral load, and regular antiretroviral therapy were selected. This study was submitted and approved by the local Research Ethics Committee (CAAE: 50004415.1.0000.5419), and all patients gave informed consent for participation in the research. (AU)
