Abstract

Approximately 26 million people were diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) only in the US. This disease usually affects elderly people, even so is considered a public health problem due to is worldwide prevalence. Frailty can be described as complex syndrome characterized by loss of physical and cognitive parameters which increases vulnerability to adverse events. This syndrome is very prevalent among the subjects with CKD, around >69% in individuals in hemodialysis and raises hospitalization and mortality among this population. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the association of frailty, using the Clinical Frailty Score and the Frail Score, with combined outcome hospitalization and mortality in 6 months among patients in chronic hemodialysis. Laboratorial analysis will be assessed according to the routine of the Dialysis Unit as well as the frailty assessment. Revaluation will be conducted 6 months after the first interview and its goal will be to check the frailty and the combined outcome. Therefore, it is expected a better understanding of frailty in the context of CKD.
