Abstract

New generation sequencing technologies (NGS) greatly increase the possibilities of applying molecular information in the development of scientific research, enabling the characterization of variability in the genome of species and investigation of its consequences at transcriptional and phenotypic level. About 100 Nelore bulls, chosen for their contribution to national herd, will have the complete genome sequenced and aligned with the UMD 3.1 bovine reference sequence for the development of the Thematic project "Genetic aspects of quality, efficiency and sustainability of cattle production meat in Nellore animals". This thematic project will also perform the sequencing of total RNA extracted from muscle and liver tissues in groups of higher and lower feed efficiency Nellore animals. Knowledge of bioinformatics will be essential for the analysis and interpretation of such information, this project aims, firstly, to advise, in the area of bioinformatics, all the studies to be carried out in the thematic project. In addition, in the present project, the complete genome and transcriptome sequencing of Nellore zebu animals will be used for comparisons with similar public information, aiming to analyze the demographic history of the subspecies Boas taurus taurus (Taurinos) and Bos taurus indicus (Zebuinos) and identify new coding potential transcripts expressed in cattle.
