Abstract

The project "Inventory and spatial distribution of disasters related to geodynamics events in the State of Sao Paulo in 2019 - GEODISASTERS 2019" is within the Plan for Institutional Research Development of Geological Institute (PDIP-IG) approved recently by FAPESP (process 2017/50336-6), related to its aim of modernize and widen the institutional capacity of research on analysis and monitoring of risk of disasters related to geodynamics events. The project attend specifically to the PDIP objective of: 1) to execute the operational daily activities of feeding the database of disasters already existing; 2) to improve the capacity of data analysis; 3) to develop news forms of transmission of the results to society. Since 2010, the Geological Institute keeps an Inventory of Events and Disasters for the State of Sao Paulo, which have reached almost 21,595 registers, including the period between 1997-2017. The main data sources are the system of disaster recording of the Department for Civil Protection and Defense of the Government of the State of Sao Paulo (SUPDEC) and those published by the digital media. The present project will carry on the database with 2019 data. Its general objective is to keep up-to-date the inventory of disasters related to geodynamics events for the State of Sao Paulo, in aid to the monitoring and risk disaster reduction policies. Its specific objectives are: 1) to obtain, systematize and georeferencing disasters related to geodynamics events for the State of Sao Paulo, available from public databases and the digital media for 2019; 2) to produce statistical disaster indicators, which are capable of show the spatial distribution and the evolution of the criticality among the state municipalities, promoting the assessment of the practices of disaster risk management; 3) to disseminate regularly the results; 4) to compare the local (municipal) proceedings for disaster inventory with the current database in order to qualitatively identify some misses that curb measures of disaster risk reduction; 5) to compare field data with the current database in order to qualitatively identify some misses on data registering. At first, the organization, treatment and analysis of data will be executed in a web environment through the Google spreadsheet, an easy and friendly tool. It is envisaged that during the project development a switch-over of the platform to a geographical information system associated to a more robust and safer database installed in an institutional own server. The expected results comprehend an increase in about 2000 registers relative to 2019, the production of new indicators to improve the analysis of the criticality of the distribution of disasters among the municipalities of the State of Sao Paulo, a better dissemination of the statistical of disasters, both as monthly bulletins or in a geographic information system open to spatial queries.
