Sweet potatoes [Ipomoea potatas (L) Lam] are an important food supplement for the eradication of nutritional deficiencies in population groups with deficiency of consumption in calories or nutrients. In the state of São Paulo, in the last ten years more than doubled the area planted and tripled the production. The state is the second largest producer of sweet potatoes (163 thousand tons), being the Western the main producing region. In this region, despite the considerable economic and social relevance of the crop, the genotypes that predominate are 'Canadense', 'Uruguaina', 'Rio Dois' and 'Ligeirinha'. With this, low yields due to the use of obsolete genotypes. To strengthen the cultivation of sweet potatoes an important possibility is the development of new genotypes. Considering the information, it is aimed to develop and select experimental sweet potato genotypes, in order to obtain adapted plants and that attend the national demand. The botanical seeds will be obtained through the polycrossing of the genotypes: 'BRS Rubissol', 'BRS Amélia', 'Beauregard', 'Princesa', 'Brazlândia Branca', 'Brazlândia Rosada', 'Brazlândia Roxa', 'Conquinho', 'SCS367 Favorita', 'SCS368 Ituporanga', 'SCS369 Águas Negras', 'SCS370 Luiza', 'SCS371 Katiy', 'SC372 Marina', 'IAPAR 69', 'Rainha Branca', 'UZBD 01', 'UZBD 02', 'Uruguaiana', 'Canadense' e 'Ligeirinha'. From the evaluation of the plants obtained by botanical seeds will be selected the most promising experimental genotypes. The development and selection of sweet potato genotypes is the way to generate cultivars more productive and adapted to the growing conditions of the main producing regions of Brazil.
