Abstract

We propose a 6-month research internship at the University of Nottingham (UoN), UK, under the supervision of Silke Weinfurtner. This research will focus on analogue models of Gravity, specially those based on the propagation of surface waves on water. The experimental setup, already assembled at the UoN, will allow the investigation of two important Black hole physics phenomena, namely superradiance and Hawking radiation, in a draining vortex flow of water. The student will be part of the Black Hole laboratory, the ideal place for the execution of this project, where Silke Weinfurtner and her multidisciplinary group of students, post-docs, and visitors collaborate to understand classical and quantum fluids in the context of Analogue Models of Gravity.
