The literary treatment of the subject of territorial displacements in Douceurs du Bercail (1998), novel by the Senegalese writer Aminata Sow Fall

Abstract

The present research project aims to study the novel Douceurs du bercail (1998), by the Senegalese writer Aminata Sow Fall, focusing on the analysis of the literary treatment of one of its central themes: territorial displacements. For this, we will first seek to understand the specificities of the narrative genre in which it is inscribed - the novel -, to study the narrative focus, the action, the characters and, finally, the time and the physical, social and psychological space in this work (cf. ABDALLA JUNIOR, 1995; CANDIDO et Al., 2009; OYOUROU, 2014). Secondly, we will systematize the types of displacements described in the novel. To understand them, we will start from critical studies on the work of Fall (GUÉYE, 2005, KOFFI, 2014; ONUKO, 2012; OYOUROU, 2014; THIOYE, 2005; DIOUF, 2009 e 2016). It will be equally important to know the history of Senegal, colonial domination and decolonialism (BOAHEN, 2010; CÉSAIRE, 2006 e 2012; SAID, 2011; BAMPOKY, 2018), as well as the relations between language, state and society and the representations of immigration (MAMBENGA-YLAGOU, 2005). It will also be our task to look at the general context of the history of African literatures (OUPOH, 2015), and on the concept of Francophony (JOUBERT, 1997).
