In loco: workspace representations of the Laboratory of Plant Breeding ESALQ/USP as science communication

Abstract

The research topics, scientists and workspace for science production from the Laboratory of Plant Breeding (LMP), Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ), at the University of São Paulo (USP), will be explored in photographic essays for the composition of photo-narratives directed to digital media (social media and blog). The aim is to dialogue with society to promote scientific culture and literacy. The images at the same time as they communicate, generate critical thinking on controversial topics related to agricultural sciences, such as plant-pathogen interaction and environmental stresses. In this science communication research project, we want to break stereotypes and change perceptions about science and scientists, as well as bring scientist and society together as a way to strengthen democracy and citizenship. The initiation to scientific journalism and participation in a multidisciplinary team will allow the candidate to experience new forms of social communication and apply concepts and techniques from the undergraduate midialogy course.
