The materials used in the production of parts of the oil and chemical industries are often subjected to severe wear and corrosion conditions. Stainless steels exhibit a great combination of mechanical and corrosion resistance; however, they also exhibit a relative low wear resistance. Recent studies performed in the DEMa-UFSCar, supported by FAPESP and Petrobrás, show that the addition of boron in stainless steels composition is responsible for a significant wear resistance enhancement. Moreover, a novel project aiming the study of stainless steels processed by additive manufacturing is been supported by FAPESP and Petrobrás, since this processing route can be used to produce in-service failed parts of the offshore platforms in a very short time. Therefore, this doctorate proposal is dedicated to evaluate the processing-microstructure-properties relationship of boron-modified super duplex stainless steels processed by additive manufacturing (selective laser melting), regarding the microstructural evolution, the mechanical properties and the wear and corrosion resistance.
