Abstract

The project aims to the planned development of Janus nanoparticles of multifunctional heterodimers from routes that provide good synthetic control and high reproducibility of results. The term Janus alludes to the God of Roman Mythology who possessed two opposing and distinct faces, just as it is the interest of these materials: to possess two or more functionalities in the same composite. The nanoparticles will be based on gold, silica and iron oxide, materials that provide a range of unique functions, such as cell imaging, response to applied magnetic field, easy surface modification, among others. In this way, the construction of nanoparticles with high complexing power and high density of exposed functional groups is a powerful tool to capture noble metals such as gold and palladium. (AU)
