Abstract

The objective of this research is to understand the specificities of the scientific paper genre in two languages/cultures, through a comparative analysis that allows the description of the verbal part (thematic content, style and compositional structure) together with the extraverbal part (sphere, authors, historical moment, target audience) of utterances. To achieve this goal, linguistics articles will be compared in two scientific journals, from two languages/cultures: Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish from Chile. The corpus is composed of utterances from the Brazilian journal "Filologia e Linguística Portuguesa" from the University of São Paulo and the Chilean magazine "Boletín de Filología" from the University of Chile. The concepts of spheres of human activity, utterances and speech genres developed by Bakhtin, Medvedev and Volochinov, which allow to make links between linguistic and extralinguistic aspects, and the concept of tertium comparationis and discursive culture elaborated by the French group Clesthia axe sens and discours will be the theoretical basis of the research.
