Abstract

Photonic research aims at the generation, detection and processing of optical signals, paving the way for the production of devices with diverse technological applications. Therefore, it is necessary to search for materials and structures with adequate optical properties, as well as techniques for manufacturing and manipulating these structures and materials. In this project we will explore the Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) technique, using femtosecond laser, for the production of periodic structures in the chalcogenite glass (As2S3). This material presents high refractive index, infrared transparency and high optical nonlinearities, characteristics that make it promising for technological applications in the area of photonics, especially in the spectral regions of telecommunications. The optimal manufacturing parameters (pulse energy, number of pulses and focusing) will be studied to obtain periodic structures, which will be characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Finally, numerical simulations will be carried out to investigate the dispersion relations of the structures and the possible band-gaps, evaluating the possibilities of using the structures manufactured in the elaboration of photonic devices.
