Abstract

Metallic titanium and its alloys are widely used as implants in the biomedical industry. Biocompatibility questions of the implants still remain an open problem, even with a large use, failure of implants occurs, different strategies can be used to solve theses problems, surface modification is a promisor strategy. The implant surface can be modify using titanium dioxide, hydroxyapatite and others materials, forming a thin film, this film can be functionalized using peptides, proteins, small organic molecules. In this work commercial pure titanium surfaces will be modified with titanium oxide and hydroxyapatite thin films; the films will be functionalized using bisphosphonates and octadecylphosphonate, these modifications have the scope of increase the biocompatibility of implants. The samples will be analized using different surface thecniques such as XPS, AFM, ToF-SIM and others to undestand the interactions between the films, bisphosphonates and octadecylphosphonate. (AU)
