Despite the major advances in the treatment of early-stage breast cancer in recent decades, metastatic breast cancer is still considered incurable due to resistance to most available treatments. In addition, the toxicity of the treatment may be quite high with metastatic regimens, which may limit the total dose received. Both diet and exercise have been shown to attenuate treatment toxicity in humans. Objective: To assess the efficacy of a combination of acute aerobic exercise and a low-carbohydrate, low-calorie diet given acutely prior to chemotherapy treatments. Methodology: 42 women with metastatic breast cancer who will receive chemotherapy. The intervention of aerobic exercises will consist of a single guarded of 30 minutes. The diet intervention consists of the provision of meals prepared in a metabolic kitchen under the supervision of a nutritionist with a caloric content equivalent to 50% of measured energy needs and 15% of carbohydrates 72 hours prior to each chemotherapy. The results of the tumors will be evaluated by magnetic resonance and venipuncture, while symptoms and quality of life will be evaluated through a questionnaire before and after up to six chemotherapy treatments of a consistent treatment protocol.
