On Space Theories and Dwelling: a Critical Anthology (2008|2018)

Abstract

A critical review of the disciplines that deal with space conception, subsequent to the ideological vicissitudes of the 20 century, as well as the new social and economic processes of space production, are pressing problems at the beginning of the 21st century. Both require a critical disciplinary update to be able to continue disputing the enlightened transformation of the meanings of architecture and urbanism. With regard to Brazilian cities, there has been a great advance since the end of the twentieth century in relation to urban policy instruments, which, however, have not been able to guarantee a socializing and democratic urbanization. The objective of this research is to identify the structural frameworks presented in the theoretical reflection dedicated to the theme of the space of contemporary housing, especially considering the ruptures of paradigms established after the global economic crisis of 2018. For this, it is intended to organize an anthology of national and international texts related to the theme, as well as to identify innovative spatial solutions in its urban condition. The research stage with TU Delft is a fundamental part of this objective, as it will allow the contact with several European authors related to the theme, as well as technical visits to the emblematic case studies. The research is linked to the Thematic Project "Architecture and urbanism, addressing the social space in the 21st century: segregation strategies and appropriation tactics", which is in execution. It is hoped, with this work, to move towards a critical disciplinary reflection that considers the challenges arising from the 2008 crisis, which have been especially perverse in developing countries, such as Brazil.
