The present project is focused on the synthesis, characterization and evaluation of the cytotoxicity of metallic iron nanoparticles. Morphological, structural and magnetic features of these nanoparticles obtained by co-precipitation methods will be studied. We intended to investigate the synthesis parameters to improving their biocompatibility in comparison to the samples known in the literature to evaluate their applicability in biomedicine. The objective of this first step is to explore the factors that interfere in the structure, morphology and magnetic characteristics of this class of compounds, since they influence directly the properties of these materials. Functionalization on the surface particles with biocompatible molecules such as chitosan (CS) and mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA) and anchoring with bioactive molecules such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and potassium diclofenac will also be carried out. Structural, morphological and magnetic characterization and functionalization efficiency of the ligands on the NPs surface will be performed by different techniques. The second stage of this project focuses on the use of these systems as vehicles that release these drugs in cells such as mononuclear fraction and tumor cells.
