Analysis of changes in land use in five decades in Santa Fé watershed stream, county of São Paulo and impacts on water

Abstract

Water, in addition to its economic, social and environmental importance, is a natural resource essential to life on Planet Earth. In recent years due to interferences in its cycle and lack of adequate management (Piroli, 2016), it has become scarce in some regions of the country and the world, especially in those where the population has increased considerably. Thus, at the same time that the need for quality water increases, its stock in the water bodies and soil decreases. In this context, this research has the objective of analyzing land use over five decades in the Santa Fé Stream watersheed, located in the Anhanguera District, in the city of São Paulo. Through the use of geoprocessing techniques, which include remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS), we will analyze the changes in land use that have occurred in the basin over the years and what impacts these changes have caused on water and its cycle in the area. From the data obtained will be thematic maps of the land use of each year studied, which will later be crossed through the Land Change Modeler (LCM) module of the TerrSet application to identify where the changes took place and what their dimensions. At the same time, socio-spatial manifestations will be analyzed in order to understand how this has affected the area's water and water resources over the years.
