Abstract

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) presents itself as a public health problem with many challenges, including the relapse process. The Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) program was specifically designed to work on the processes underlying the relapse cycle. The main objective of this project is to evaluate the effectiveness of MBRP in comparison to the usual treatment in hospitalization services for reduction or cessation of substance use in patients with UUT one year after the intervention. The study design will be the randomized controlled clinical trial, with an estimated sample of 200 people, male and female, over 18 years of age and who are being treated for TUS in therapeutic communities in the State of São Paulo. We will verify the differences between the groups in relation to outcomes using assisted self-filling scales with quantitative measures evaluated at four different times: before the intervention, immediately after the intervention, six months and 12 months after the intervention. The instruments used will be the most requested and validated for the verification of the objectives of the study. Data analysis involves analysis of variance with repeated measures for comparison of control and intervention groups over primary and secondary outcomes over time, logistic regression models to assess prediction relationship and change between independent variables (such as level of mindfulness) (such as pattern of consumption and impulsivity, anger management, fissure, etc.), as well as structural equation models to evaluate mediation and moderation of these variables on the consumption outcome.
