Abstract

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (BLS) and axillary dissection (AD) are interventions used to staging women with breast cancer. These interventions are associated with varying degrees of dysfunction of the upper limb on the side affected by the disease. Physiotherapeutic techniques are used to prevent and / or treat such dysfunctions, however it is fundamental to estimate the risk and factors associated with such occurrences. Our objective is to perform a systematic review of the literature to estimate the risk of occurrence of upper limb dysfunctions associated with BLS and AS. The research will be developed through articles on the subject available in databases, PUBMED, WEB OF SCIENCE, EMBASE and CINAHL by the year 2018. The research strategy will include controlled vocabulary (MeSH) and key words Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy; Breast Cancer, Axillary Dissection; and additional key words Lymphedema, Lymphoedema, Breast Neoplasm, Side effects, Sequels, Pain and Musculoskeletal events.
