Abstract

The development of new diagnostic imaging agents able to differentiate tissue, organs or pathologies types of similar contrasting properties more efficiently and presenting low toxicity good biocompatibility motivates new studies due to its huge importance in the medical field. Owing to its advantages, such as low cost, deep penetration depth, high resolution, as well as facile image processing, magnetic resonance imaging and X-ray computed tomography imaging play important roles in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of various diseases, receiving significant attention in both research and practice. On another hand, near-infrared fluorescent probes offer advantages of, very high sensitivity, reasonably high photon penetration, low light scattering and minimal autofluorescence from living tissues. This project aims the synthesis and characterization of upconversion nanoparticles based on niobium oxide containing lanthanides ions (Ln3+, where Ln3+ = Gd3+ or Dy3+, Tm3+, Yb3+ and Nd3+) for the development of new multimodal materials with applications in the medical imaging field.
